Application Process:

Rebate Amount and Restrictions:

  • The rebate’s value is determined by the amount of property taxes an individual has paid for their primary Montana residence, with a cap set at $675.
  • Only one rebate is permitted per household.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • To qualify, a taxpayer must have owned and resided in a Montana property for a minimum of seven months.
  • Additionally, they should have been invoiced for and made payments towards the property taxes for that residence.

Government’s Stance on Property Taxes:

  • “Property taxes are excessively high, prompting us to prioritize and ensure immediate property tax relief for Montanans during this legislative session. Our next step is to focus on reforms that will alleviate the property tax burden in the long run,” commented Governor Greg Gianforte (R-MT) in a statement released in July.

Rebate Disbursement:

  • Those who apply online can expect their rebate within 30 days of application.
  • However, if applying via paper form, the rebate might take up to 90 days to process and disburse.

  • The current rebate distribution pertains to the tax year 2022.
