While the majority of the deadlines for submitting claims for state-issued stimulus payments have already elapsed, a handful of states are presently engaged in the process of disseminating payments. This phenomenon stems from either the recent endorsement of fresh stimulus packages or the necessity to distribute the remaining funds from their initial allotments.

Current Disbursement of State Stimulus Payments

  1. Idaho: In Idaho, both tax rebates and “Special Session Rebates” were dispatched in March and September of 2022. Although a substantial portion of the 2022 rebate payments has already been apportioned, the Idaho State Tax Commission is continuing to issue payments as qualifying taxpayers submit their returns.
  2. Illinois: The deadline for submitting information to be eligible for the Illinois Income Tax Rebate and Property Tax Rebate was set for October 17, 2022. While a significant number of payments have been disbursed, the state Comptroller has indicated that the distribution will persist until all qualified recipients have received their rebates.
  3. Massachusetts: Massachusetts instigated the distribution of state tax refunds in November 2022, and the majority of these disbursements have been finalized. Eligible filers were entitled to a 14.0312% reimbursement of their 2021 Massachusetts state tax obligation. However, individuals who have not yet submitted their 2021 returns can still assert their refund by filing prior to September 15, 2023.
  4. Montana: Residents of Montana have the opportunity to qualify for a property tax rebate of up to $675 and/or an income tax rebate based on their state tax liability. The issuance of individual income tax rebates commenced in July 2023 and is projected to conclude by December 31, 2023, following the order in which they were submitted.
  5. New Mexico: In New Mexico, inhabitants are presented with two categories of rebates in 2023 – one targeting taxpayers and another tailored for those exempt from the obligation of filing tax returns. The income tax rebate extends to $1,000 for joint filers and $500 for single filers and married individuals filing separately.
