Sassa Gold Cards, for collecting grants, are used by beneficiaries to collect their payments, and the agency says it’s working on resolving problems. The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) advised beneficiaries who use cards to collect social grants to renew their expired Sassa Gold Cards so they can keep collecting them.

Sassa Team Fix Renewal of Gold Cards Issue

Approximately 800,000 Sassa Gold Cards have reached their expiration date in April 2023. There are more than 2.6 million Gold Cards that will expire in May 2023. In June 2023, another 1.5 million Sassa gold cards will expire. Post Office cards were in high demand, and many grant recipients were worried they wouldn’t be able to withdraw their grants. Due to some challenges, the South African Post Office had to extend some cards that were due to expire in June 2023 until December 2023 in order to fix various issues.

Paseka Letsatsi Statement

According to Paseka Letsatsi, the Communications General Manager of Sassa, social grant recipients shouldn’t have to travel long distances to renew their Sassa cards. According to Letsatsi, it’s really expensive, and the beneficiaries are the most vulnerable.

Sassa Opinion For Beneficiaries

In Sassa’s opinion, the Post Office needs to get in touch with PASA so that they get plenty of time to handle certain administrative issues, like finding a venue close to its beneficiaries, so they don’t have to travel far to renew their cards. Letsatsi says the Agency is working with Postbank to make sure that beneficiaries have access to their grant payments before things get worse.

The Postbank introduced a new payment solution that lets grant recipients collect their grants without a Sassa card. Postbank will continue issuing Sassa Gold Cards to beneficiaries, according to the Department of Social Development.
