Sassa’s permanent grants, including Older Person Grants, Disability Grants, Child Support Grants, Foster Child Grants, War Veterans Grants, and Care Dependency Grants, will see an increment of R10.
- The Old Age Grant, Care Dependency Grant, and Disability Grant will rise to R2090.
- The War Veterans Grant will increase to R2110.
- The Foster Child Grant will be adjusted to R1130.
- The Child Support Grant and the Grant-in-Aid will remain at R510.
Background on Grant Increases
These grant increases were initially announced by the Finance Minister during the Budget Speech in February. As the number of grant beneficiaries continues to rise, and with adjustments to grant values, government spending on grants is set to grow from R233 billion to R248.4 billion.
Status of the R350 Grant Increase
Unfortunately, the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant, commonly known as the R350 grant, will not see an increase in October 2023. The Department of Social Development’s request for an increase was not approved due to fiscal constraints.
Both the Social Development Minister and the Deputy Director-General at the department have expressed their desire for an increase, but there has been no official confirmation, and the grant remains at R350 per month.
Sassa Grant Payment Schedule for October 2023
Sassa grant payments for October 2023 will begin on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, starting with Older Persons’ Grants. Here is the payment schedule:

R350 Grant Payment Dates for October 2023
After an uncertain payment schedule in 2022 and 2023, R350 grant recipients can now expect regular payments towards the end of each month. It’s important to note that it may take 2-3 working days for funds to appear in beneficiaries’ bank accounts after processing.
