Millions of financially strained South Africans benefit from the Sassa Social Relief of Distress grant. The organization claims that after receiving millions of applications, it has resolved all issues related to delayed payments and backlogs.
Sassa Confirms That All SRD Grant Payments Are Up To Date
The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has confirmed that it received 13.5 million Special Relief of Distress Grant (SRD) applications since January 2023. With this grant, we aim to aid those most vulnerable in society that have been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Lindiwe Zulu, Social Development Minister, assured 350 grant beneficiaries at a recent parliament portfolio meeting that assessments and payments are current. Every month, 7.4 million to 7.8 million of the above-mentioned applications are approved, according to her.
According to her, roughly 95% of applicants that were approved in the beginning of the year have already been paid. Recently, however, this coverage has decreased to 85%, down from 90% in August 2022.

As part of Sassa’s efforts to make sure the grant is distributed equitably, applicants must provide detailed information about their financial situation, among other documents. Furthermore, Sassa provides support services like call centers and physical offices in addition to setting up an online portal for people to apply for grants.
It is only necessary for applicants to apply once on each channel, rather than many times on each one. Applicants can only submit one application to Sassa, and Sassa will contact successful applicants after processing their applications.
