The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) is a government agency responsible for administering social grants to eligible individuals in South Africa. Sassa provides financial assistance to vulnerable groups including the elderly, disabled, and children in need. The agency manages various grants, such as the old age pension, disability grant, child support grant, foster care grant, and social relief of distress grant (SRD), also known as the R350 grant. The following procedure will guide you through the process of submitting or switching your payment method.

  • Go to the website https://srd.sassa.gov.za.
  • Go through the page until you see the inscription asking you to update or change banking detail.
  • Enter the ID number that was used to submit the application
  • And click on the submit button.
  • You then receive the banking details link in an SMS.
  • The link is only valid for 30 minutes and it can be used only for the ID number that requested for it.
  • If failed to use within the 30 minutes, another request can be made only after 24 hours.

  • Bank details submitted by applicants must be accurate and must be in their names.
  • The bank details submitted will need to be verified. SASSA does not verify, but the bank does. SASSA only make the request to the banks.
  • There is a great deal of variation in the speed of the verification depending on the bank.
  •  Approval can take 3 to 4 weeks after verification.
  •  You can contact your bank and SASSA if the approvals delay more than necessary.
  • Don’t switch or change your banking details frequently. When you change or update your bank account details, you follow the queue, which only prolongs the verification process.
