NSFAS Eligibility for Appeal
Students whose financial aid application is rejected or withdrawn can submit an appeal. However, appeals are subject to budget availability. Students registered for unsupported qualifications or those who have reached N+2 (or N+3 for students with disabilities) cannot submit an appeal.
Who Can Submit An NSFAS Appeal
A student whose application for financial aid has been rejected or whose financial aid has been withdrawn can appeal to NSFAS. The NSFAS has warned that appeals will only be considered for students who have applied for funding through the NSFAS.
Who Cannot Submit An NSFAS Appeal?
Students cannot submit an NSFAS appeal if they are registered for an NSFAS-unfunded qualification or if they have reached N+2 (or N+3 for students with disabilities).
NSFAS will also not consider appeal applications where the student is a gap year student who has been denied financial aid previously due to academic ineligibility.
NSFAS will not consider an appeal if the institution has not submitted its registration record or has submitted an incorrect registration record. Inquiries should be directed to the institution directly.
NSFAS Late Application Opening Explanation
NSFAS attributes the late opening of applications to expedite decision-making processes and align with financial eligibility assessments requiring updated information from the South African Revenue Service (SARS).
