“Recipients with cards that will not expire during March are discouraged from seeking new cards at post offices during this month as they will not be provided with the service,” the agency said.
We will announce soon the dates and procedures for collecting gold cards that expire in other months.
“Grant recipients with gold cards that expire in the next few months do not need to worry, since they will continue to receive their social grant money into those cards.”
When can I collect my new gold card?
Sassa said Monday and Tuesday will be dedicated to issuing cards to recipients of old age and disability grants. Those receiving child support grants and other grants will be able to collect gold cards from Wednesday to Saturday.
What must I take with me to collect my new gold card?
In order to receive social grants, recipients must bring a South African ID and a gold card that expires in March, Sassa said
“Post office branch staff will assist grant recipients in activating their cards and selecting a new PIN, and the cards will be activated immediately for withdrawals and other transactions.
A new gold card will only be issued in the name of the person whose card is expiring at the post office. It is not possible for a person to collect a gold card on behalf of another unless they are registered with Sassa as a procurator (a person who is registered formally with Sassa to receive/collect a social grant on behalf of another).
Can I get a new gold card if I lost or misplaced my old one?
A new Sassa grant card can be collected from any post office branch by Sassa grant recipients who have lost or misplaced their cards. Post office branch staff will verify the beneficiary’s fingerprints before issuing a new gold card.
