Eligibility for the $1,000 Stimulus Check

It’s important to note that not all residents of Los Angeles will be eligible for this stimulus check. To qualify for the $1,000 per month payment over the next three years, individuals must meet specific criteria. Here are the eligibility requirements:

1. Age Criteria:
   • Must be at least 21 years old.
   • Should not have turned 24 before September 1 of the current year (2023).
2. Care System History:
   • Must have been in a care system for 18 years or after turning 18.
3. Income Threshold:
   • Family income should be 100% or less than the median income for the area if living alone.
   • If living with two or more people, the income threshold is set at 120%.
4. Pandemic Impact:
   • Must have experienced negative effects due to the previous pandemic.
5. Exclusion from Other Guaranteed Income Programs:
   • Should not have applied for any other form of guaranteed income program.

Payment Method and Implementation

Eligible recipients will receive the stimulus check funds through a debit card, ensuring accessibility even without a bank account. The debit card can be utilized like any other card, without any special requirements or limitations.

The Breathe Program, responsible for distributing these payments, will commence monthly disbursements starting in July. The State of Los Angeles will directly contact eligible citizens, informing them of their eligibility and providing details on accessing the stimulus check funds.
