Good News NSFAS Application Extend For Next 15 Days. The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has recently announced an extension for the 2024 NSFAS applications, providing an opportunity for those who have not yet applied to submit their applications before the new closing date.

2024 NSFAS Applications Extended

The NSFAS has officially extended the closing date for the 2024 applications to 15 February 2024. This extension offers a second chance for individuals who were unable to submit their applications before the initial deadline.

Application Statistics

As of the announcement, NSFAS reported that 1,745,226 applications have been submitted on the NSFAS portal. The breakdown of the applications includes:

  • 940,682 provisionally funded applications.
  • 269,915 applications awaiting evaluations.
  • 48,643 applications withdrawn by the students.
  • 232,559 applications in progress.
  • 136,531 applications in the NOT-STARTED status, where applicants created profiles but did not submit applications.

Additionally, NSFAS has rejected 102,201 applications, with 1,093 NSFAS appeals lodged so far.

Applicants are reminded that it is mandatory to download and upload a completed consent form, accessible on the website, myNSFAS portal, or mobile app. The consent form is essential for NSFAS to verify applicant information through third-party channels, including details such as the employment status and income levels of parents, guardians, and spouses.

Applicants with specific NSFAS statuses, including Awaiting Evaluation, Financial Eligibility, and Application in Progress, must wait for an SMS or email from NSFAS for further instructions on the Consent Form. Sassa beneficiaries, however, are exempt from submitting an NSFAS Consent Form.

NSFAS Loan Scheme

Applications for the NSFAS loan for missing middle students are open and will also close on 15 February. NSFAS clarified that students who previously applied for the NSFAS bursary scheme do not need to submit a new application for the student loan scheme. Those who did not meet the bursary scheme eligibility criteria but meet the loan scheme criteria will be automatically considered for a loan.

NSFAS loan applications can be submitted on the NSFAS website.
