The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has provided details regarding the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) Grant payment schedule for December 2023. Only individuals approved for grant payments will receive their funds this week.
- Payment Period: SRD grant payments will continue and conclude by December 22, 2023.
- Processing Dates: Payments for approved clients in December 2023 will be processed from December 18 to December 22, 2023.
Early Payments Due to Public Holidays
Unlike the typical final week disbursement, December 2023’s SRD payments are scheduled earlier. Sassa does not disburse grants on public holidays or weekends, and with two public holidays in the last week of December 2023, beneficiaries can expect early payments.
Processing Time and Bank Reflection
Beneficiaries are reminded that payments may take a few days to reflect in their bank accounts. Typically, it takes about 2-3 working days for the funds to appear in the client’s account after the processing date.
Options for SRD Grant Payment Collection
SRD grant beneficiaries have choices for receiving their grants promptly:
- Direct Deposit: Grant payments can be directly deposited into the beneficiary’s bank account.
- Cashsend Option: Those without a personal bank account can opt for the Cashsend payment option. Using their ID number and phone number, beneficiaries can access funds with a cellphone and valid proof of identification.
- Retail Outlets: Grant beneficiaries can also collect their R350 grant at various retail outlets nationwide, including Pick n Pay, Checkers, Shoprite, and Boxer stores.

Sassa encourages grant beneficiaries to stay informed about their SRD grant status:
- Status Check: Regularly check the SRD website during the week to find the exact date when the payment will reflect in their bank accounts.
- Application Rejection: If an applicant’s SRD Sassa application is rejected, they can submit an SRD grant appeal to the Independent Tribunal for Social Assistance Appeals (ITSAA).
