Final Call for Grade 12 Learners and Students

Deadline Approaching: NSFAS 2024 Funding Applications. Prospective Grade 12 learners and students aspiring to commence their higher education journey but facing financial constraints are urged to take immediate action.

Submission Deadline: January 31, 2024

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) emphasizes that the deadline for submitting bursary applications for the upcoming academic year is Wednesday, January 31, 2024.

Opportunity for Financial Assistance

Since November 21, 2023, NSFAS has been accepting applications for financial assistance, and the closing date is rapidly approaching. Deputy Minister Buti Manamela urges students aiming to enroll at public universities or Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges to seize this opportunity by promptly lodging their applications.

Inclusive Support for Academic Aspirations

NSFAS’s support, extending to over 1.4 million students across public higher education institutions, is crucial for those lacking the economic backing to pursue their academic aspirations.

Eligibility Criteria

Manamela emphasizes the inclusivity of the scheme, stating that individuals with Grade 10, 11, or 12, aiming to study at a university or TVET college, and who are either SASSA beneficiaries or have a household income less than R350,000, can apply to qualify.

Diverse Support for Various Disciplines

The scheme embraces diversity by supporting a wide range of disciplines, including law, engineering, medicine, and various vocational studies.

Application Process

To apply, interested parties should visit www.nsfas.org.za, create an account under myNSFAS, and complete the application process using a computer or mobile device with internet access.

Comprehensive Funding Package

NSFAS provides a comprehensive package covering not only tuition fees but also accommodation, learning materials, and a living allowance to ensure that financial barriers do not hinder academic pursuits.

Expedited Approval for SASSA Beneficiaries

SASSA beneficiaries enjoy almost immediate approval, with 657,703 applicants already receiving provisional funding.

Applicants must submit a signed consent form, a regulatory requirement for NSFAS to undertake necessary third-party verifications, confirming the employment status and income of the applicant’s parents, guardians, or spouse.

Simplified Access to Application Updates

NSFAS ensures simplified access to application updates through innovative channels, including a mobile app, a WhatsApp service, and USSD. Applicants may contact NSFAS on WhatsApp at 078 519 8006 or use the USSD code 12067327# to stay informed about their application status.
